With spring right around the corner, it's about time to start
thinking about using some of the new colors and trends for your beauty regimen.
Whether you want to brighten up your face or try a new nail polish, there are
plenty of new trends to try that fit your budget. Even if you like to keep your
makeup routine simple and clean, there are a few alternative ways to spice up
your looks without leaving your comfort zone. Here are some of the must-try
trends of the 2011 season:
Colored eyeliner: Sure, brown and black
are the go-to colors when lining the eyes, but this spring try and add a pop of
color to your face by using a colored eye pencil. No matter what store you shop
at, there are many colors to choose from like turquoise, yellow, green and
purple. Check out Urban Decay's Glide on Eye Pencils at
Sephora for a variety of colors.
When
using eye pencil, keep the color in place throughout the day by applying a
light layer of concealer on the lids to mask any discoloration and set with a
translucent powder. Line the upper eyes at the lash line and swipe on a coat of
mascara. For more impactful color, use a thicker line along the lashes.
Sleek hair: While the warmer months are more casual,
flyaway pieces of hair usually just look sloppy and detract from your overall
look. Depending on your hair type there are two products you can use to smooth
down a style: styling cream or gel. Gel has improved in the past few years, so
it no longer leaves the crunchy, weighed-down look. Add a small amount to
towel-dried hair, and then pull it back into a sleek ponytail. If you want a
softer look, apply a small amount of styling cream to areas you need to smooth
down. One inexpensive product to try is Garnier Fructis Style Sleek Shine
Styling Cream.
Matte Lips: I'm the kind of girl that loves lip gloss,
but I really don't love getting my hair stuck to the gloss when I'm outside.
One way to keep your lips looking colorful without the shine or hassle is by
using a matte lipstick or pencil. For spring, try out bright colors like
fuchsia or coral or if you prefer a more subtle look, choose a color that
closely resembles your own lip color. Two to try areNars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil or Revlon Matte Lipstick.
Jewel-toned eyeshadow: If you want to
brighten up the eyes, jewel-toned eyeshadow was a hit on the fall and spring
runways. Deep colors like green and purple enhance your eyes while brightening
up your entire look. To keep the shadow looking chic instead of clown-like, apply
most of the color near the lashes and make it sheer as you blend up toward the
crease and brow bone. Don't forget - when you use a bright eyeshadow you need
to keep lips neutral. Use a nude lipstick or lip balm to balance out the face.
Look for jewel-toned shadows at Sephora with their Collection palettes
or choose a Nars Duo eyeshadow in
a popping color.
These are
just a few ways to try out the hottest spring trends as it begins to warm up.
Each of these trends can be found at inexpensive retail stores like Target, or
at specialty stores like Ulta or Sephora. If you are hesitant to try any of
these new trends, simply pick one at a time to get more comfortable with the
brighter colors until you get confident to play around with the different
vibrant colors or styles.
